How To Be The Top Chef of Your Dormroom

In college how do you properly function in a room the size of most prison cells? Dorms are all alike; small and narrow hallways and even smaller rooms, not to mention the sounds and smells. The 24 hour chatter of students, and the distinctive aroma of popcorn and mac N’ cheese that creeps from each room. For most students it’s just too far to walk down the hall to the community kitchen, that is I might add, suppose to accommodate all 50 students on the floor. College is hard enough and you need to be making meals that are fast and easy, but that isn’t to say you should be mowing down on boxed noodles or frozen entrees for the next few years. Here are five perfectly simple, and awesomely delicious meals you can prepare all by yourself, in that tiny little dorm:

1. The Five ingredient recipe: Bruschetta Bread

The less ingredients you have to worry about the better when your in a small space, and this recipe allows you to use fresh produce, while not having to touch a timer or the microwave at all.
What You’ll Need:
• 1 red onion
• 1 tomato
• 1 clove garlic
• 2-3 basil leaves
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 Beget (not an ingredient)
How To Make It: Own a knife? Dice everything! (remember to finely chop the garlic if you don’t own a garlic press). Add the olive oil to the mix. This brushcetta bread is best served cold atop a sliced beget.

3. Use a Crock Pot: Beef stew

4. Thank George (Foreman): Grilled ham and cheese sandwich

This machine makes it possible to barbecue inside (well pretty much the same thing). It also allows you to make these tasty sandwhiches otherwise reserved for overpriced delhi’s and pubs.
What You’ll Need:
• 3 slices ham (cut to preference)
• 2 slices American cheese (or Kraft singles)
• 2 slices of bread
• 1 tbsp butter
How To Make It: Preheat grill. Than place one slice of buttered bread onto grill, butter side facing down. Place ham and cheese (onions, tomatoes can be added at this time as well). Place the second buttered slice down, buttered side facing up. Grill for 3-6 minutes or until desired temperature.

5. And Save Room for Dessert: S’mores from the Microwave

What You’ll Need:
• 3/4 c. light corn syrup
• 3 tbsp. butter
• 1 pkg. milk chocolate morsels/chips
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 (12 oz.) box Golden Graham cereal
• 3 cups of miniature marshmallows
How To Make It: Grease a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Heat the syrup, butter and chocolate morsels in the microwave until bubbling; stir in the vanilla. Pour the contents over cereal in a large bowl; toss until coated. Fold in marshmallow, 1 cup at a time. Press into the pan. Let stand 1 hour, cut into 2 inch squares. (will make 24 squares).
