The 9 Best Cities To Celebrate 420

What allegedly began as the meeting time for “the Waldos” in their search for secret treasure in 1971 California has blossomed into a counterculture movement that is now considered among many to be an unofficial holiday observed around the world. So, which hot(box) spots partake in the traditional toke-fest? Check out our list of better known bud-friendly locales that come together for ganja on April 20th below.

San Francisco, California

Every year thousands of people flock from all over California to San Francisco’s Hippie Hill, in Golden Gate Park near the famous Haight-Ashbury district. Funny how peaceful hippies can make people so violent. If you need a hug, go here – the trees can vouch for me.

Tallahassee, Florida

Named the #2 most pot smoking city in the U.S., thousands observe 4/20 in Tallahassee. Some major places are FSU and Florida A & M campuses. I’d love to record the phone calls that come into restaurants that deliver on this day.

Santa Cruz, California

A celebration on April 20 takes place every year in the Porter College meadow at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Participants in the event are often confronted by religious anti-drug activists, yet these protesters are largely ignored. Lord have mercy, hit this J and chillax.

Boulder, Colorado

A large celebration is held every year on the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus, with attendance typically reaching more than 11,000, making CU Boulder’s celebration of the hopeful legalization of marijuana one of the largest in the U.S.

Ottawa, Canada

Annually, on April 20, thousands of activists gather on Parliament Hill and Major’s Hill to look toward the peace tower as they join each other in smoking marijuana when the clock strikes 4:20. I really hope they play Metallica’s For Whom The Bells Tolls. Time marches on… no, wait, time DOESN’T EXIST!

Montréal, Canada

Thousands of people gather at the Mont-Royal monument to celebrate 4/20. I personally prefer the Mont-Royal with cheese.

London, Canada

Each year on 4/20 thousands gather at Victoria Park downtown to celebrate. Over 2,000 people joined the festivities, which included live music. London is also the hometown of Canadian cannabis policy reform advocate Marc Emery.

Toronto, Canada

A march to legalize marijuana on 4/20 ends up at Queen’s Park Circle just north of the Ontario Provincial Parliament where there are both vendors and entertainers. Over 30,000 people participated in the revelry. If only the Blue Jays could get that kind of attendance.

Vancouver, British Columbia

On April 20, 2009, an estimated nearly 10,000 people gathered around the Vancouver Art Gallery to celebrate “420”. I assume some of the best works are produced on this day.

  1. How the hell do you have this list without listing either Portland or Eugene, Oregon. Oregon marijuana laws are the most friendly in the country, you know how many plants you can grow with a permit in Oregon……22, know what the second most is? Cali with 7. Everyone here smokes, my friend and I went to multnomah falls, the most popular tourist attraction that is a natural attraction, and we walked to the top on 4/20 last year and there was a huge gathering of stoners, all strangers to each other just passing joints, pipes, and the likes. I am actually upset at this. You put a florida town in front of Oregon, unbelievable!

  2. My friend told me that she bought Tiffany and sunglasses last week, they are very beautiful.I am also want to buy Tiffany and sunglasses, but my mother disagree, she said they are not to fit me.
