The Ann Arbor Journal, WNDU, and multiple other media outlets are reporting the Wolverines and Fighting Irish will wear retro-looking “legacy” uniforms when they play each other on the night of September 10th in a game / event they’re calling “Under the Lights” because it’s the first time Michigan has ever played a night game in Ann Arbor. Michigan’s legacy jerseys, which will only be worn once by the players, will be available for $80 through MDen.com starting August 1.
At first glance, the differences between these and their regular uni’s is minimal. I’m a Michigan guy, so I want to like the Wolverines’ designs better but that shamrock on the side of the ND helmet is … cool? I think? I’m Irish so I like it but I could see how others will sh*t all over it. I don’t get why they’re only worn once. I dig the alternates worn in the MLB and I busted my pre-puberty nut when the NFL had the teams wear old school uni’s in the ’94 season, so I don’t understand why more teams or leagues don’t shake things up more like this. I mean, I’m not talking Oregon Ducks every single f’n game shake up, but once a month isn’t too much to ask for, is it? It would certainly make the slaves… er… I mean student ath-o-letes get more pumped for games.
