Saturday Cocktail: Go Far East with New York’s Most Imaginative Bartender

If you haven’t caught our drift yet, we are huge fans of cocktails here at COED. So when we got wind of Bombay Sapphire’s Search for the Most Imaginative Bartender, we needed to get all the details stat. Fifty-one of the best mixologists from around the country were chosen to gather in Las Vegas next month to compete for the title, a contest we certainly wish we were judging. Representing our home state of New York is Christian Sanders of Evelyn Drinkery, as his cocktail Far East was named “Most Imaginative” during the August 25th contest. And because we want you to drink up well this Labor Day weekend, we’ve inlcuded his winning recipe below. So grab a shaker and get to pouring.

Far East Cocktail
1.5 oz Bombay Sapphire
.5 oz absinthe
.75 oz pineapple puree
.5 oz garam masala syrup
.75 oz lime
2 dashes bitter end Moroccan bitters
.5 oz egg white
3 sage leaves

Inspiration came from the gin itself and the botanicals that make up such a beautiful spirit. I started thinking of other herbs and spices that come from the same parts of the world that make up what is in Bombay Sapphire East. So I went with some Indian and Moroccan flavors. Some of my favorite food is Indian, and since it has so much flavor and intensity, why not find a way to express that through one of the most complex spirits in the world. And so was birthed the Far East Cocktail. – Christian Sanders
