Enjoy These ‘Tombstone’ Memes To Honor The Anniversary Of The Gunfight At The O.K. Corral [Photos]

Today marks the 132nd anniversary of the most famous gunfight in the history of the Old West, the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Although the real gunfight actually lasted about 30 seconds, it’s now come to symbolize the lawless period of America’s expansion westward.

The gunfight was fought between the Cowboys Billy Claiborne, Ike and Billy Clanton and Tom and Frank McLaury, and the Town Marshalls Virgil, Morgan, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. 30 shots were fired in 30 seconds, killing Billy Clanton and both McLaury brothers. Virgil and Morgan Earp were wounded, but Wyatt and Holliday came out unharmed. The resulting feud between the Cowboys and Wyatt Earp would lead to the murder of Morgan Earp and cause Wyatt to pursue vigilante justice in what became known as the Earp vendetta ride.

Although almost everyone in America has heard of the this gunfight over 100 years later, it did not gain national notoriety immediately after it happened. It wasn’t until 1930 when author Stuart Lake published what is now known to be a mostly inaccurate autobiography of Wyatt Earp that the gunfight started to become famous. Since then, the gunfight at the O.K. Corral has been featured in several movies, and arguably the most badass of those movies has got to be the 1993 film Tombstone.

If you haven’t seen Tombstone, we have no idea why you’ve been denying yourself such an amazing experience. The movie is about the Earp family and their battle with the Cowboys, but the best part of the film is the friendship between the lawman Wyatt Earp and his outlaw friend Doc Holliday. Val Kilmer absolutely kills it as Doc Holliday. Holliday is a hard drinking gambler who’s smarter, funnier and a better shot than everyone he meets.

In honor of this famous event in the history of the American West, we’ve found some of the best Doc Holliday memes featuring Val Kilmer that the internet has to offer.
