New “Star Wars” Game Will Let You Build Your Own Freakin’ Spaceship

A new Star Wars game in the works is actually doing something that no other Star Wars game, movie, book or collectible line has ever done: actually listen to the fans. Disney Interactive now owns the entire rights to the Star Wars universe thanks to the Walt Disney company’s massive Lucasfilm buyout earlier this year that included LucasArts, the video game company that produced an endless line of Star Wars games. Disney’s newest Star Wars game Attack Squadrons will give the players more control by letting them design and build their own spaceships that they can send into battle with or against the Rebel Alliance or the Empire, according to CNET.

The game is currently undergoing beta-testing in closed online sessions but when it’s released, it will be a free-to-play multiplayer battle where players can take the existing designs of TIE fighters and X-Wings and modify them to suit their needs for superior firepower, advanced dogfighting maneuvers or just basic style modifications. Matches can include up to 16 players at once that will take place in several different “iconic Star Wars locations,” according to a press release.

So basically, you can go hog wild with all of the little toys that George Lucas’ never-ending gravy train has to offer you and they are yours to do with however you see fit. If you thought that Luke Skywalker’s T-65 X-Wing Starfighter needed something a little manlier under the hood than an Incom GBk-585 hyperdrive unit or a SFS F-3.2 flight avionics system with twin mounted L-s1 laser cannons instead of those wimpy Taim & Bak KX9 laser cannons, now you can do that. The best part is that you’ll actually be surrounded by people who know just what the hell you’re talking about.
