We know that the 2014 Academy Awards was a bigger deal to news stations than, say, any kind of conflict in the Ukraine. There’s still no excuse for the news team at KVUE in Austin, Texas getting all starry-eyed over local boy Matthew McConaughey winning the Oscar for Best Actor.
KVUE is an ABC affiliate–which is the same network that airs the Oscars–so maybe the newscaster thought she was being a team player in announcing that the University of Texas tower was lit up in honor of the Dallas Buyers Club star. Synergy can’t beat history, though, and disgusted Texans quickly reminded the news team that the UT tower was lit in celebration of Texas Independence Day.
Which, as you might guess, is a big deal to proud Texans. Anyway, check out the embarrassing video. And then celebrate Texas Independence Day, if you missed our tribute to the luscious ladies of the Lone Star State.
