Kansas Loses Joel Embiid For Big 12 Tournament

Joel Embiid has the potential to be the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Before he can do that though, he needs to finish the season for the Kansas Jayhawks–and it appears he is going to be sitting for a while with an injury. Kansas coach Bill Self said Monday that Embiid is out for the Big 12 Tournament this week and is unlikely to play in the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament with a stress fracture.
It is a major loss for the Jayhawks, who appeared to be hitting their stride at just the right time. Embiid wasn’t thought of as the big name player when the season started with all the attention on Andrew Wiggins. Embiid has surpassed him in draft status and overall value on the team however.
Kansas should be alright if Embiid misses just the first weekend of March Madness. Their road would become much rockier if he can’t come back for the tournament at all. The time to rest Embiid has arrived in hopes he can lead the Jayhawks to a national championship in early April.
