A New Kickstarter Wants to Turn Your World Into a First Person Shooter

A new crowdfunding campaign kicked off today for a mobile device that doesn’t just aim to bring mobile gamers a way to play first person shooters. It also wants to give them a game that can completely blow away the competition on console and computer games.
First person shooters on iPhones and Androids have been tricky to pull off because touch screens aren’t designed to handle all the complex controls and movements required to navigate a fully immersive environment. 13th Lab in Stockholm, Sweden claims to be working on a first person shooter game that can truly be called a “first person game.” It’s called Rescape and unlike other games that create fake environments for a person to navigate, their first person shooter actually creates an environment based on what their mobile devices see and can turn those images into a real-time, multiplayer shootout. The device is a handheld, rifle style weapon that can hold the phone on top of it as if it were a scope on a sniper rifle. The game creates a level based on what the phone sees and can even turn other people in the game into allies and enemies by digitizing the entire environment on their mobile device.

Of course, such a project would require a huge amount of capital so developers could create their own game for this exciting new piece of first person gaming technology. In this case, they only need $150,000 to fully get it off the ground and they started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the dough. Just imagine what a company like id Software or Bethesda Softworks could do with this kind of interface. They could literally put us in a Doom or Wolfenstein 3D game and we wouldn’t have to endure the wrath of an angry hell god or an evil Nazi ruler in order to experience it.
