Shockers Of Wichita State End NCAA Run In Third Round

Many people wanted the darlings of Wichita State to win the NCAA Tournament and finish the 2013-14 season with an undefeated 40-0 record. Those dreams came crashing down on Sunday evening though when the top-seeded Shockers fell to the Kentucky Wildcats in an epic third round game. Wichita State ends the season with a 35-1 record. It has led some to think that the selection committee stacked the Shockers’ bracket against them.
Wichita State would have had to beat Kentucky, Louisville and likely Michigan to get back to the Final Four. Those three games are among the best in all of college basketball and the first two were among the hottest teams heading into the tournament. Critics have also said that the Shockers’ schedule was light and they would have trouble in the tournament. Their schedule was lighter last season too and they still went to the Final Four. The bracket was something that team was going to have to deal with.
It was an epic run for Wichita State and something that they are going to be proud of for a long time. The dream of an undefeated season though has gone the way of the Dodo bird and is now extinct.
