L.A. Clippers' Chris Paul Helps Out Ailing Coach's Son

Chris Paul is one of the most fan-friendly players in the NBA today. Paul took that to the next level recently when he befriended Patrick McCaffery, the son of Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery. The younger McCaffery had a malignant tumor removed from his thyroid two weeks ago. Paul called Patrick before and after the surgery and also sent out a tweet supporting him.
It is players like Paul that should make fans think about the fact that some players care about what the fans are up to. He invited the team to the Los Angeles Clippers’ shootaround earlier this week and Paul gave Patrick McCaffery his game-worn shoes. There are some players who wouldn’t do those things because they are their favorite shoes or are lucky.
It is obvious that professional sports need to have more people like Paul in it. Hopefully this helps McCaffery on his road to recovery and he can attend more games in the future cancer-free. It’s a wish shared by many more out there like Paul.
