Cure Bowl Set To Become 40th College Football Bowl Game

The number of college football bowl games had been hanging out at 35 games for the last number of seasons. Next season will see 39 games–and with an announcement yesterday, there’s now a 40th game for the 2015-2016 bowl season. The Cure Bowl will be played at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando after the 2015 regular season. That means 78 teams will now go to bowl games. It also gives Orlando three different bowl games, adding the Cure Bowl to the Russell Athletic Bowl and Capital One Bowl.
The number of bowl games has pretty much reached a saturation point.Teams that don’t even finish .500 are going to have the chance to go to a postseason game. There shouldn’t be any teams under 6-6 who make it to the late December-early January time period. Especially with national television exposure .
There were just 28 bowl games a decade ago. This year also sees five new bowl games with the Camellia Bowl, Detroit Bowl, Bahamas Bowl, Miami Beach Bowl, and the Boca Raton Bowl. With the Cure Bowl being added, it’s enough to make the Bowl landscape go into the toilet bowl.
