Trump Named 2017 Commencement Speaker At Liberty University

Liberty University has tapped President Trump as its commencement speaker this May, which will be Trump’s first commencement speech as commander in chief. Liberty advertises itself as the “largest Christian university in the world,” with 110,000 total students.

What’s Happening?

Trump has been named the 2017 commencement speaker at Liberty University.
“I look forward to speaking to this amazing group of students on such a momentous occasion,” Trump said. “Our children truly are the future and I look forward to celebrating the success of this graduating class as well as sharing lessons as they embark on their next chapter full of hope, faith, optimism, and a passion for life.”
Trump has previously spoken at Liberty University in 2012 and 2016. During the latter visit, he ruffled some feathers when he incorrectly cited “Second Corinthians” as “Two Corinthians.” Trump is good friends with Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., who said that graduates will have the opportunity to hear from a “champion of the average American citizen.”
The last sitting U.S. president to speak at Liberty University’s commencement was George H.W. Bush in 1990.
